Most Practical Asperger Syndrome Book!
As a home school teacher of a precocious 10 year old AS son and the wife of an equally brilliant, but emotionally unstable, disabled husband (possibly AS), I use the information contained in this book to help me manage both my child and husband during those difficult moments. This book is a godsend for those of us with explosive AS loved ones and a blessing for helping AS loved ones with milder anxiety features. The book aids in identifying anxiety triggers and sensory overload triggers that can start "the rumbling stage" of a rage cycle to help make the environment more "AS FRIENDLY." While often times environmental triggers cannot be avoided, the ability to recognise the rumble stage early and apply practical interventions, is what makes this book particularly valuable to me as a teacher and stand-in therapist for my son and hubby. Not very many specialists are out there to properly diagnose and treat AS. This book makes it easier for AS families to...
Practical state-of-the-art guide and invaluable resource
Asperger Syndrome and Rage is a practical, state-of-the-art guide for parents and professionals. As a parent of a young adult son with Asperger Syndrome and a school psychologist, I felt as though the authors had lived in my home and worked with the students I served in the school. Feasible and realistic solutions to assist individuals with AS to become successful in their daily lives and to learn to monitor and control uncomfortable situations are presdented. Every concept introduced is clearly explained in easy to understand language and is followed by real-life examples. The ultimate goal of this book is to help individuals with AS understand their exceptionality, complete with its strengths and challenges. This book is an invaluable resource.

Straightforward and practical help
I am the mother of THREE children with Asperger Syndrome. When our oldest son began attending school we were exasperated with the school staff and their inability to understand that he was being triggered into meltdowns, and we had no way to track what was setting him off. This book has a clear and concise methodology for tracking meltdown triggers in the school setting. In addition it gives very specific examples of what to do and not to do during each stage of the rage cycle. Because it is brief many of the staff were willing to read it. Using the methods in this book were were able to create a plan that helped eliminate a large number of triggers because the staff finally understood there were EXTERNAL causes, not internal or behavioral causes as they had assumed.

If it was up to me it would be standard issue in every school and required reading for every special education program. Teachers need and want this information because they are not taught how to deal with our...

Good magazine, not great for mountain riders
I got this just to read about sleds. They try to balance all of the types of riding (mountain, flatlander and in between) but tend to focus more on the flatlanders (which probably has a lot more riders/readers, so I don't blame them). So I consider this a very good overall magazine, but if you only are interested in mountain riding stuff, you would probably want to look elsewhere.

Five Stars
I have enjoyed for past 3 years and I plan to continue subscription.

SnowGoer
If you're an avid snowmobiler, SnowGoer is one of the best! Especially like the issue about snowmobiling destinations.
Thanks SnowGoer!

Maxim for Motorcycles
This magazine is published by the same people that brought us Maxim. So if you like Maxim, check it out. If you don't: pass. The pictures are slick, models are attractive, but there is little in the way of information on how to do it yourself or what was actually done to the bike. It is basically a picture book. If you are looking for technical articles, how tos or performance installs; check out Road Bike for metrics or Hot Bike or American Iron for Harleys and Victory's.

Delivery Time is Slow
I've purchased this magazine off the shelf before, and I'm happy with it, but it's been over a month since I made the purchase, and I still don't have the first issue.

Metric and Harley cruisers side by side!
Are you a cruiser owner that is sick of all the Harlier-Than-Thou magazines out there? Let me tell you, if all you want is to see a magazine chock full of awesome V-Twin custom bikes and you don't care what part of the globe they are from or what badge was on the tank then you better slap yourself down for a subscription to V-Twin magazine.
While pouring through a recent issue of V-Twin I find numerous four page spreads on fantastic custom cruisers that include a Kawasaki Vulcan 800, a Yamaha Road Star and a Yamaha Royal Star plus pictures of reader's rides showing a Yamaha Road Star and a Suzuki Intruder. Of course there are your typical custom Harley entrants including a fantastic Knucklehead and an INSANE custom from Eurocomponants! There are also heaps of ads for vendors that cater to both the Metric and Harley owners which is nice to see. And of course there are naturally write-ups on product reviews, wrenching advice, bike events, biking editorials and general bike news...

Bloody great!
I read several monthly automotive publications and this one is my favourite. The photography and layout are excellent. And the colloquial writing style is fresh and engaging. Kudos especially to Jamie Kitman and Georg Katcher, who both write for American publications as well.

Best car magazine... period.
I have been reading car magazine for over 25 years and is undoubtedly the best car magazine you can buy. Yes, they are not afraid to loose business calling a bad car for what really is. Although, they have a peculiar tendency of over praising Jaguars and Land Rovers (call it patriotism if you wish).

Every time a new Jaguar or Land Rover comes along they always rated as the new standard on its respective class. The funny thing is that after a while they ALWAYS realize what a big mistake they have made and quietly bury the English entries for what they really are: well designed pieces of junk.

The best car magazine available
Car is unlike any other auto magazine I've seen. Well written, interesting and useful. The photography is great as well. Most importantly, they seem to have no problem calling a bad vehicle what it is. Too many magazines write great reviews of what are, at best, average products. Perhaps they're afraid of losing advertising?

Review :
A pocket-sized book of ADD tips (if you have largish pockets)
I really like this book. It is pretty short, but it contains some very good ideas. I read it a few days ago, and picked up a few tips which I've been using. The brevity helps to avoid information overload, but there are plenty of citations throughout so that the reader can look into the research if they decide to.

The layout is great. It's easily readable from cover to cover in one day, but it is also very easy to jump straight to the relevant idea when you need it. I like the fact that there are exercises at the end of each chapter to help with synthesising the information.

My only complaint is that, in the descriptions of ADHD, hyperactivity is normally assumed, so for inattentive types it can be hard to relate to some of the examples. But the tips have been useful and they seem like they would be applicable for all types of ADHD.

Overly simplistic
This book is a strange mix between hints from Heloise and ADD suggestions, ranging from advice to use 'sock buddies' to keep your socks together and storing clothing in vacuum seal bags, to parking in the same place in every parking lot (so you can find your car) and dressing your children in bright colors when going into busy areas (so you can find your children). On the plus side, it's very simple reading. On the minus side, it's superficial and only occasionally practical. If you want more solid solutions, try a different book. My favorite: ADD-friendly ways to simplify your life.

practical and effective
Hi, i'm reading alot of books on adhd and this was one of the most practical books i've ever read on the subject. In fact it's so practical that I wished all authors will follow this example because it's not so lengthy where it's boring, it's the most no nonsense book i've read on the subject. I've read a similar book from Thom Hartmann's add sucess stories and this book was way better organised into 10 practical chapters. The suggestions were also similar yet so much better in this book.

After reading this book, I for the first time in my life cleared all cluttered from all of my rooms and still kept it tidy. I should read up on managing money because i'm overspending way too much this month. It's good because it's almost like a reference manual, you can alway go back and check the chapter that you need to work on. Okay it doesn't get overly specific, still I don't have many complaints about this book. You won't be disappointed with this book, keep it handy, it's a good...

Review :
The soul of autism in form and color
This art book is primarily a celebration of form and color as done by artists on the autistic spectrum. I counted 53 different artists with a wide range of styles. Just to note a few: there is the blueprint precision of Temple Grandin, the cubist-like work of Wil C. Kerner, the pointillism style of Esher Brokaw, the cartoons of Justin Canha and Glen Russ, the categorical detailed work of Gregory L. Blackstone, the ethereal anguish of Marilyn Cosho, and many more. I felt an overall sense of estrangement and longing that is at the heart of the human predicament. We are both part of this world and estranged from it; we are among family and friends and yet we are alone. We feel the contradictions and the confusions of life and we try to make sense of it.

I think it was at least partially the intent of Jill Mullin, who edited the book and conducted the interviews with the artists, to allow the artwork to reveal the unique soul of autism. She writes: "...I sorted the work...
Drawing Autism by Jill Mulin, Temple Grandin
Drawing Autism is a collection of art created by people who are on the autism spectrum. For some of the artists, art is the only way of communicating their experiences as a person with autism. But whether the art is highly sophisticated, emotionally powerful, playful, technically amazing or naive, the cumulative experience of this book is astonishing. There is an introduction by Temple Grandin describing how drawing became her entry into what became her very successful career and the book is then divided into themes. Each chapter consists primarily of art-paintings, collages, drawings, mosaics, a wild and exciting diversity of media and subjects, accompanied by a small amount of text written by the artist.

Jill Mullin has done a wonderful job of selecting the art. Each piece is beautifully reproduced and the companion text is taken from a questionnaire filled out by the artist. In some cases, the answer was dictated to someone who wrote it down and in a few cases, the...
Art Describes the World of Autism
Jill Mullin opens this very sophisticated and well-designed book with a foreword titled AS SEEN THROUGH THE AUTISM SPECTRUM in which she opens with the statement ' Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability associated with social interaction and communication impairments and rigid and/or repetitive behaviors.' She then proceeds to study the visual manifestations of autistic people by presenting a book, every page of which is filled with not only full color reproductions of 'artists' presenting their art accompanied by a brief but telling note by each person whose art is displayed.

By deciding to allow the art speak for itself Jill Mullin, who comes to this project with years of experience working with both children and adults with autism, makes a strong statement about the manner in which the mind of autistic people view the world. She asked every artist represented in this book the following questions: At what age did the act of creating art enter your...

"GOD I WISH I HAD THAT BOOK SOONER"
I literally just closed this book, and after giving my mother a recap of the book as well as what it taught me..followed by the exclamation, "GOD I WISH I HAD THAT BOOK SOONER." I checked this book out from the library but I'm ordering it once I finish this review. Not only is it jam-packed full of fabulous advice for a (recently-diagnosed) Aspergian, but it has a great not-so-little section at the end with more resources to help you evaluate where you are socially and to help monitor your daily life to make the most of the best of Asperger Syndrome! (There's also a glossary which is helpful).

The book addresses different topics but throughout it the author accomplishes the teaching of social skills beautifully providing a concept followed by (and I quote):
1) a definition of the concept
2) a list of the salient features
3) positive examples
4) negative examples
5) a prototype
6) opportunities to sort and identify positive and negative...
Excellant Resource for Everyone
This book must have been written with us in mind. It confirmed things we guessed at and even pointed out things we didn't know were a result of our daughter's AS. I wish we had this book a couple years ago as a guide for making it through high school, but she has it now for college. The explanations read a bit wordy but the checklists/bulleted lists after each part make for a handy reference.

Not a practical guide to Social Interactions
This is my first book review and this is the first book I have read on AS. Please disregard other comments describing this book as being similar to a textbook; this book uses formal referencing, but it's a very easy read.

Firstly, I found the Personal Rating Scale at the end of the book to be very useful as it highlighted my significant difficulties with empathy and observational skills. This book focuses on processes for self-learning, rather than providing detailed examples of neuro-typical social interactions. My poor observational skills mean that I need help with neuro-typical social interactions, and I didn't consider the processes in this area were very practical, eg. observing non-verbal communication of actors in a movie, which I thought might depend heavily upon the quality of the acting.

For me, imagine a golf swing. I'm not very good at golf, but I know that the position, alignment and rotation of your entire body is important (eg. head, shoulders,...
