Review :
2 years ahead of the fashion curve! Light years ahead of ordinary plus size fashion!
I just reviewed Burda Moden, and much of what I said there applies here too.

First off, I'm a plus size lady.

I sew, and I love Burda magazines. Till recently I had an annual subscription and I need to refresh my subscription again. I always but always subscribed to both the regular magazine (which has a plus size section!) and the Plus magazine (which NEVER duplicates what you see in the regular one).

If given a choice I think I'd take the Plus magazine if I couldn't afford both.

Here are some helpful tips on why you might like to subscribe EVEN IF YOU DON'T SEW, and how to do so if you are out of the States area.

For Canadians there is a Burda magazine reseller, and it will cost about 10$ Canadian per issue. Which is MUCH less than a normal pattern now. So it saves you on patterns.

Burda has ways to subscribe for each country, just go to their website and click till you get the reseller for your own area...
wonderful patterns
Contrary to the previous review, the majority of the patterns in the Fall/Winter 2005 issue were normal sizes (5'6"). This particular issue contains 10 jackets (two of which were for petites), four skirts (one of them petite), three pants (one petite), and four shells (two petites). There were no dresses and no blouses with sleeves. The interesting fabric choices and the superb fashion photography were also excellent. This particular issue also had an article on how to change a petite pattern to a regular pattern and vice versa. The pattern pieces have unique sophisticated shapes, very interesting for the intermediate to advanced sewer. One thing I did find lacking was there was no casual sportswear. The magazine seems geared toward business suits and formal occasions.

I'm a Believer!
I ordered back issues of this magazine from an Ebay dealer in the UK after the Spring 2006 issue came out and I am sold not just on Burda Plus but on Berlin fashion designers as well- the women, anyway, make lovely, flowing but not "girly" clothes that are very wearable - Think Eileen Fisher or Flax but with darker, richer colors, fibers and textures, slightly more "fit" and more interesting shapes in a wider variety -- not just the same few repeated again and again. Clothes for the decades, not the season -- and the patterns are HERE! at least some of them, from designers like Evelyn Brandt, Doris Strietch (and another Berliner (female) whose name escapes me at the moment, but whose clothes I deeply admire.)

The fit is better than most American pattern companies - especially pants. If you make one garment from each issue the subscription has more than paid for itself. Good info on sizing patterns up or down in the back issues I recently received - keeping the...

Review :
High marks!
I subscribed to this magazine one year ago. Out of the four issues I've received this year, I've knitted at least one project idea from each issue, and three so far from the fall issue alone (!) and each has turned out beautifully.

I haven't read any other knitting magazines that appeal to me as consistently as this one. I've noticed that each issue has a careful balance of projects, appealing to both genders and to all levels of knitting expertise.

Each issue contains a few "gee-whiz!" type articles in the front with interesting, exotic and sometimes downright weird news about the knitting world (like, who knew that knitting could be considered performance art?).

There's usually an exotic "catch-the-eye" or cutting-edge fashion project, followed by other apparel projects that are always beautiful, visually appealing and frequently wearable, too! Although the magazine does occasionally include items that make me shake my head in disbelief, Interweave...
For exciting design and technique articles, this is a must
I think this is becoming my favorite knitting magazine. Though not as thick as "Knitters", the articles in Interweave Knits are interesting and useful. The editors often take one project, sometimes a small one like hats or mittens, and knit it in many variations. This was also the first magazine in the US to publish patterns by Vivian Hoxbro (Domino Knits) and got everyone going on this addictive form of modular knitting.

My favourite of all knitting magazines
This magazine possesses very aesthetically pleasing design and patterns. I have only been knitting for less than a year, yet I made my first sweater from a pattern from this magazine. The directions are accurate and straightforward.
The only frusterating thing about this magazine is most of the patterns showcase an advanced skill level...

simply knitting is simply amazing
ibought a subscription to this publication several years ago at $120 for the year and mainly for the alan dart patterns in each issue .it was worth it to me just for them. but the other patterns were lovely .it was a sad day when the last issue arrived i can no longer afford the extremely high cost of this magazine. but if you have a stray stash of money laying around and you love to knit. if you are disappointed with the quality and choice of american pattern and designs, take a chance on this wonderful collection of patterns and advise .

Great magazine for Knitters
Love this magazine but the delay in receiving my first issue by subscription is disappointing. I hate buying it on the newsstand. It takes over 3 months to get the first issue.

My favorite knitting magazine!
Vogue knitting magazine is my favorite knitting magazine. The photos are gorgeous, there are a wide variety of patterns for all abilities, the pattern instructions are very clearly written and easy to follow even on the more advanced patterns and it is enjoyable to just flip through because the photos of the finished patterns are stunning. I have been knitting for about a year and a half and I have successfully knit an intermediate and one advanced pattern from vogue knitting both of which turned out beautifully.

I love that the patterns are not your average stockinette stitch sweater, they are interesting, fashion forward patterns that would appeal to even young teenagers.

My fav!
I have been subscribed to this magazine for many, many years. I wouldn't give up my subscription. Even if I don't knit from it....it gives me great ideas and suggestions for yarn. It's the best.

Let's get real
I am the husband of a knitter. I am entering this review because the one review posted has nothing to do with the content most subscribers (in US) are seeking. My wife, like most serious knitters, belongs to a knitters group that meets every week. Discussing publications is always a part of any gathering. My observation is that Vogue Knitting International is one of their most appreciated and discussed pubs. Many of their projects come from the pages of this mag. The group, located in Maine, is made up of beginners to advanced and is led by a German knitter. My wife is getting a subscription to this for Xmas because she is always seeking the next issue in all visits to book stores.

Review :
The only knit mag subscription I ever renewed!
I have been knitting for 5 years, and I've tried a number of knit magazines, including Interweave Knits, Knitters, Creative Knitting, and Vogue. I just sent in my renewal for Knit Simple, whereas all the others have fallen by the wayside. It offers excellent variety, clear instructions and photos, a range of skill levels but plenty of projects that a less experienced knitter could tackle. The articles are helpful (such as scaling down projects for petite sizes, scaling up for larger sizes, a discussion of the characteristics of different fibers), and the product and book reviews are concise and informative. They often have groups of projects with a theme, such as vests for the family, and cable sweaters for the family. I knit for my two children and husband, so these family themes are a welcome feature. Plenty of home projects such as afghans and pillows are included as well. Each project includes a close up, actual size, of the yarn used for comparison with substitution yarns, as...
Love this mag
This magazine always has something I want to make. Many patterns for all levels of knitters, and good book reviews.

I guess I wish there was a Knit Even Simpler
I get two knitting magazines, this one and Interweave Knits. They seem to arrive at the same time every time, and every time I am struck by how much SIMPLER Interweave Knits is---There is always a far higher ratio of patterns I mark to try in Interweave than Knit Simple. I don't know if the knitting powers that be out there realize how many beginning knitters there really are. What I would love is a magazine that really tackles the basics---perhaps works us through a few great stitch patterns, and puts them in a simple scarf, or shows how to make a basic winter hat. I have tried hard to follow the instructions here for socks---which seem to be the rage to knit right now. They lose me right away. I don't mind if a magazine includes a few harder patterns even if it's called Knit Simple---you have to have something to work for. But most of the time, there are mostly sweater patterns here. I think there are a lot of truly simple things to knit, and a LOT of beginning knitter who...

Knitters is a magazine with a worldwide view that fits like a custom-made sweater with great knits in a user-friendly format and the unparalleled School for Knitters makes tips and techniques easy-to-understand. Covers yarns, books and supplies utilized by knitters.

Review :
Always has something
I've been knitting most of my life and have subscribed to this magazine for over 4 years. Each issue has a theme--cable patterns, stripes, unisex sweaters, colors, knitting for children, etc. I find that even if the theme doesn't interest me, the magazine is always worth perusing. Each issue includes a "how to" section that will satisfy even the most experienced knitters. Articles have covered knitting in darts, reversible cables, and several aspects of designing. Recently the magazine was improved by listing yarn weights as well as the original yarns used in the patterns, which makes substitutions much easier. Most of the patterns are sweaters in classic styles with a few modern designs thrown in. While not in every issue, there have been many children's sweaters included. Issues often include other items, such as hats, scarves, shawls, Christmas ornaments & decorations, purses, socks, gloves and mittens. The magazine has also featured several "great...
Love the format, great info, patterns a mixed bag
I particularly love the format of patterns presented in the magazine--easy to follow, helpful sidebar with all the key info, and well written. They are presented just like in Sally Melville's Knit Stitch and Purl Stitch books, which I love (XRX publishes both the magazine and those books).

I find that there are many "how to" articles that help me as an advanced beginner/early intermediate knitter. Again, the instructions are clear, as are the accompanying graphics/photos. I am holding on to the articles that cover more advanced techniques, and will go back to them once I think I'm ready.

The only downside to this magazine for me is that there tend to be few patterns that I want to knit. This is purely a matter of taste; I highly recommend going to their website and checking through the archives to get a feel for the patterns. That said, the few I have made from Knitter's have been among my favorite items I've knit. I just made a sweater ("Swing Set") for my...
lots of plus size patterns
I love this magazine for 3 reasons:

1) Most of the patterns have plus sizes, at least to 1X, but often 2X and 3X as well.

2) Patterns are designed to minimize sewing. Sweaters are usually knit in the round, and cardigan bodies are knit in one piece.

3) There's always a new technique or two featured. I learned how to do several advanced techniques from this magazine (e.g. entrelac, mosaic knitting, double-knitting), including some lesser known ones such as brioche patterns where multiple long yarn-over stitches are worked into eyelets within the lacework of the rows below ("Stripes à L`Orange" in issue K75 which you can preview on their web site - the stitch pattern looks like maple leaves!).
